Starting at the Well House, this strenuous loop trail passes through a
forest of oaks and pines, passes various facilities of the camp, and
up the side of Matthews Creek Gorge. You will start by following red
and gold blazes to a clearing where the Gold Trail splits to the right
and parallels Matthews Creek. At a bend in the creek you will make a
wet crossing (be aware of the slippery rocks and current), and once
across, climb a very steep hill. You will pass by a picnic area and an
observation platform before you emerge in a campground at cabin #20.
You will continue down a dirt road past an activity shelter, then go
down a steep hill to a bridge across Matthews Creek. Cross the creek
and follow the dirt road and gold blazes back to the trailhead.
Length: 1 mile.
Fees: No fee, but call ahead to get
