Summary:
Since opening in the 1930s, Chester State Park near Chester, South Carolina has been a haven for hiking, picnicking, boating and fishing for the surrounding communities in the Piedmont Region of South Carolina.
You will begin this easy, 1.2-mile out and back trail behind the boathouse, located at the back of the parking lot, and wind alongside the lake in Chester State Park. The trail yields several excellent fishing locations along the shoreline of the 160-acre lake, which is stocked with bass, crappie, bream, and catfish. Rental fishing boats are available and a hand launch area for private boats, which is limited to hand power or electric trolling motors. You will reach the turnaround point at the dam, where you can stop to rest and enjoy the sound of water falling over the spillway. Chester State Park also features several picnic areas, 25-campground sites, a play field, and archery range.
Camping: Call 1-866-345-PARK (7275) or go online at www.SouthCarolinaParks.com to make your reservations today!
Directions:From Chester: Drive south on SC 72 and the park entrance is 2 miles on the left.

A fun hike but a bummer that it doesn’t go around the entire lake...
