Summary:
The Gouedy Trail experience is an exciting adventure filled with mystery in one of the parks most historical areas.
From the Ninety Six Historic Trail, near the Star Fort earthworks, you can pick up a trail guide and begin this short, foot traffic only, spur trail that loops through the area where Robert Goudey's trading post once thrived. Follow the grass-covered historic Charleston Road and turn right at the Gouedy Trail sign. You will cross a field, enter the woods, and come to a bench at the James Gouedy gravesite. As you rest, you may see wildlife including birds, lizards, and snakes. Continue on the winding dirt trail back to the Charleston Road, turn left and return to the Ninety-Six Historic Trail, or you can extend your hike on the Cherokee Path Trail that crosses Charleston Road.
Restrooms, water and maps are available at the Visitor Center, which includes a museum and gift shop. Insect repellent is recommended during warm weather. Pets are allowed on a leash.
Hours: Gate is open 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Park outside the gate for dawn to dusk access.
Directions:From the intersection of SC 34 and SC 248 in Ninety Six, drive south on SC 248 for 2 miles. The park entrance is on the left.
