Summary:
A truly hidden gem in the City of Charleston park system is Melton Peter Demetre Park (more familiarly known as Sunrise Park).
This park is located next to the James Island Yacht Club. It was formerly known as “Sunrise Park”, and it offers some spectacular views of Charleston Harbor and the Arthur Ravenel Bridge. This park does not cover a large area of land, but the variety of scenery here is incredible. Many people bring their dogs here to walk.
Hours: Dawn to dusk
Directions:Take the James Island Expressway to exit #2 and go southeast on Harbor View Road for 4.8 kilometers (3 miles) until the road ends. Turn left onto Fort Johnson Road and go northeast 0.8 km. (0.5 mi.), then turn left onto Wildwood Road. Follow Wildwood Road to the end, then turn left onto Wampler Drive. Stay on Wampler Drive until you see the parking area for Sunrise Park on the right hand side of the road.
