Palmetto Trail Closure
Due to Hurricane Helene's significant damage across the state, the majority of the Palmetto Trail will be closed until further notice, except for the following passages:
Ross Mountain, Stumphouse, Peak to Prosperity, Wateree, Ft Jackson, High Hills, Awendaw, Capital City, Newberry, Blackstock, Eutaw Springs, Lake Moultrie, Swamp Fox

Summary:
The Newberry Passage, which opened in 2019, runs through an 18th-century cemetery, down the city’s Main Street, and through the Newberry College campus, passing by historic homes, the Newberry Opera House, and the city’s old courthouse.
Located in the City limits of Newberry, this urban trail that travels through downtown, serving as a gateway to the upstate portion of the trail. The Newberry Passage also ties in with the Enoree Passage.

Northern Trailhead (Parking available at Franklin Trailhead)
From Newberry, take US 76 north to SC 81, turn right. Travel three miles and turn left on Forest Service road FS 379 (Franklin Road), and then an immediate right fork to Chandler Road, the trail begins at the turnaround at the end of the road.
From Columbia, take 1-26 W, exit 72 for SC-1221 toward Whitmire/Union, follow Folk Rd and State Road S-36-81 and turn left onto Chandler Road, trail begins at the turnaround at the end of the road.
From Spartanburg, take 1-26 E, get off on exit 66 towards Jalapa, turn left on to Jalapa Road, turn right onto Beth Eden Road, turn right onto State Rd S-36- 81, turn right onto Old Whitmire Highway, and then turn right onto Chandler road, the trail begins at the turnaround at the end of the road.
Southern Trailhead (Jollystreet Road)
From Columbia, take 1-26 W to exit 82 for State Route 773 towards Pomaria/Prosperity, turn right onto SC- 773 N (signs for Pomaria), turn left onto Jollystreet Road.
From Spartanburg, take 1-26 E, take exit 74 for SC-34 toward Newberry/Winnsboro, follow SC- 34W/Winnsboro Road, and US-76 E to Jolly Street Rd, the Trailhead is on the corner.
Parking available at the Franklin Trailhead and in Historic Downtown Newberry.
