Summary:
Poinsett Park is one of the most popular and highly visited Greenville Rec parks. The park provides visitors a picnic shelter, restrooms, a playground area and a .25-mile walking path.
Property acquisition for this site is a story about community involvement, cooperation, and determination. The 5 acre site was purchased in 1998 with funds raised by the Poinsett Park Project Committee lead by Paris Mountain homeowners Barbara and Gil Allen. The community raised $75,000 in private dollars and the Recreation District contributed another $30,000. The funds were sheltered by Friends of the Reedy River who purchased the site and awarded it to the Recreation District. The District, with self generated revenues, developed the park five years later. It has since been one of the most popular and highly visited parks within the system.
Poinsett Park ameneties include a picnic shelter, playground area, restrooms, as well as a nice and paved walking path.
