Silver Bluff Audubon Center and Sanctuary offers miles of walking trails winding through the property along with viewing birds and other wildlife at the Wood Stork foraging ponds.
The Silver Bluff Audubon Center and Sanctuary, nestled along 2.6 miles of the Savannah River, comprises approximately 3,400 acres of forests, fields, lakes, ponds, and streams that support a wide variety of wildlife, including over 200 species of birds, including;Wood Storks and Bald Eagles. Visitors enjoy a system of walking trails and special-event programming throughout the year, and can learn of the rich history of the property that featured visits by Spanish and English explorers, an 18th century trading post, and a Revolutionary War skirmish.
The Quail Trail is a 3-mile loop that overlooks the Savannah River from historic Silver Bluff with historical stops and river access along the way. The Tanager Trail is a 2-mile loop that connects to an out-and-back boardwalk trail. The Nuthatch Trail is a 3/4-mile loop near the butterfly garden featuring longleaf wiregrass savannah and Red-Cockaded Woodpecker cavities. Use of the walking trails (no dogs, please) and entrance to the visitor center is free, though the Silver Bluff Center and Sanctuary encourages and appreciates donations!
Visitors can access Silver Bluff's walking trails 365 days a year from dawn to dusk for FREE!
Directions:From I-95 (East): Exit I-95 at Highway 78 (St. George exit) travelling west. Follow Highway 78 for about an hour and fifteen minutes and veer left onto Tinker Creek Rd (781). This road ends at a stop sign and you'll want to turn right onto Highway 278 (Williston Road). Follow this for a ways and turn left on Silver Bluff Rd, which will eventually transition into a well maintained dirt road. The visitor center and parking lot will be on your right.
From Augusta (West): Take Highway 28 (Sandbar Ferry Road) out of Augusta and veer right onto Highway 5 (Old Jackson Hwy). Turn left on Silver Bluff Road, which will eventually transition into a well maintained dirt road. The visitor center and parking lot will be on your right.
