Summary:
This park offers 18 acres at 400 Timrod Park Drive that includes 14 lighted tennis courts, a playground, picnic areas, a picnic shelter, a gazebo, a fitness area, an amphitheater and nature trails.
From the parking area, cross the foot bridge to this short, hilly, interpretive nature trail in a city park. Signs will help you identify the towering trees–including magnolia, bitter nut hickory, black gum, sweet gum, and a half dozen different varieties of oak. You can continue your hike through other areas of the park. There is also a short, paved, wheel chair fitness loop next to the tennis courts on Timrod Avenue.
Watch for snakes, turtles, birds, and squirrels. Remember to wear insect repellant in warm weather. Leashed pets are permitted. Restrooms are located at the Recreation Center.
Directions:From the junction of I95 and I20, drive east on David McLeod Boulevard (Business Spur I-20) and turn left on Palmetto Street (US 76). Drive approximately 2 miles and turn right on McQueen Street. At the T-intersection, turn left on Timrod Avenue and then turn right at the drive. The parking lot is next to the Recreation Center.
