Summary:
The Upper Chinquapin has 1.6 miles of walking trails—not far from downtown Spartanburg. It is the home of a rare plant, the dwarf heartleaf, and has a diverse stand of ferns and hardwoods, including longleaf pines.
This series of easy walking loops and connectors provide a quiet walk in a basically urban setting which highlights Chinquapin Creek. This spur of the Hub City Connector of the Palmetto Trail was built with collaboration between the Spartanburg Area Conservancy (SPACE), Palmetto Conservation Foundation (PCF), and Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System (SRHS) to provide both an outdoor and healthy experience. Several eco systems are featured, from creek side to meadow to pine uplands, where you may see 13 species of fern, swamp tupelo, waters oaks, and wild azalea. You may also see a variety of birds and animals that make their homes near moving waters.
It is recommended that you use insect repellent during the warm months.
Hours: Dawn to dusk
Directions:From Exit 73 on I-85 Business (in Spartanburg): Drive southeast on Graham Road. The parking area is approximately 1.0 mile on the right.
