You will experience an easy walk on mainly hunting and firebreak roads as you loop through a highland stand of old growth pine and hardwoods on the Woodland Trail.
Starting from the parking area on Santee Gun Club Road, you will experience an easy walk on mainly hunting and firebreak roads as you loop through a highland stand of old growth pine and hardwoods. The canopy of trees provides shelter from the sun and refuge for deer and a wide variety of birds including warblers, Bachman’s sparrows, and red cockaded woodpeckers. No facilities are available in this area, so bring water and insect repellant during the warmer months.
Area closed to visitors during scheduled hunts.
Camping is allowed in the Santee Coastal Reserve with a permit from the reserve headquarters.
Directions:From Georgetown: Drive south on US 17 for 15 miles (one mile past the South Santee River Bridge) and turn left (southeast) onto Santee Road (Charleston County S-10-857). Drive 1.4 miles and turn left (east) onto Santee Gun Club Road at Lillypond Mission Baptist Church. Drive 2 miles and the trailhead is at a parking area on the left.
