Summary:
The trail is well labeled (pink blaze), and follows a narrow foot path along the base of the rock face, El Lieutenant. Most consider the Coldspring Branch/Bill Kimball Trail to El Lieutenant—to be one of the most difficult hikes around.
The Bill Kimball Trail is very difficult, but it is also incredibly scenic and rewarding. This trail is recommended only for experienced hikers, as the trail is steep, rocky, and uneven. The Coldspring Branch Trail branches off onto the Bill Kimball Trail and when #5 ends—you're back on Coldspring Branch. Registering with the park before using these trails is mandatory. The trails close one hour before dark, year round.

Walk back up highway 276 toward the park headquarters for about 0.1 miles until you come to a gated road on the left. There's a sign that says "Coldspring Branch Loop". The trail follows that road.

My wife and I did this yesterday, making the loop of Coldspring to kimball. It is brutal, we went counterclockwise. I would suggest Trekking poles, parts of kimball are muddy also.
